#Traumatuesdays are back!
This series we are providing #coderedtips on how to optimise casualty management.
Let's start with a team approach to rapidly identifying and managing major trauma ➡️
One responder does MARCH:
M - Massive haemorrhage
A - Airway
R - Respiratory
C - Circulation
H - Head/ other injuries
Simultaneously, another responder does COMA:
C - Clothes off
O - Oxygen on
M - Monitoring on
A - Access (intravenous) gained or prepped for
These techniques work extremely well together:
- Clothes off allows for exposure and treatment of massive haemorrhage and quick identification of injuries*
- High flow oxygen is indicated for major trauma - this is administered during airway and breathing assessments.
- Monitoring, such as pulse oximetry, supports respiratory and circulation assessments.
- Access (intravenous) gained or prepped for enables rapid administration of emergency medication such as tranexamic acid and analgesia as required.
Together, these strategies allow the team to work quickly and effectively together to optimise casualty management.
*REMEMBER - once clothes are cut, KEEP YOUR CASUALTY WARM with thermal/blizzard blankets wrapped underneath and around them if possible. A cold casualty can not clot and will continue to bleed.
Our mission is to make a difference by #empoweringothers to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to alleviate suffering and save lives. Access further free CPD and learn more about our trauma courses at www.coderedtraining.co.uk
