QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions (RQF)

Anaphylaxis can occur suddenly and without warning, making it crucial to be prepared to act swiftly and confidently. Recognise the symptoms of anaphylaxis, administer lifesaving medication and manage the situation until medical help arrives. 

Course Description

The Level 3 Award in Responding to Anaphylactic Reactions is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to respond to anaphylactic emergencies effectively. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals, caregivers, teachers, and anyone responsible for the safety and well-being of individuals at risk of severe allergic reactions. 

Suitability

This course is suitable for anyone responsible for providing first aid or care in environments where individuals may be at risk of severe allergic reactions, including schools, childcare settings, healthcare facilities, and public venues.

Duration

This is a half day (five hour) course. Timings are flexible around client needs. This qualification can be delivered as a “bolt-on” to other first aid qualifications too.

Entry Requirements

  • Learners should be a minimum of 16 years to undertake this qualification.

  • Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification.

  • Learners must demonstrate first aid procedures as part of their assessment, including providing CPR to a casualty on the floor. Therefore, learners must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor.

  • There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification.

Supporting an individual with an anaphylactic reaction 

Assess an incident 

Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is breathing or not breathing normally 

Recognise and manage a casualty suffering from a severe allergic reaction

Assessment Method

Practical demonstration 

The practical assessment of the learners is conducted throughout the course. On-going assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas. 

Multiple-choice question paper 

Candidates are assessed by the completion of a single multiple-choice question paper.  

6 multiple-choice questions 

The pass mark is 4 correct answers (70%)
