Course Description
The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (Management of Catastrophic Bleeding) (RQF) is an accredited QNUK qualification designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle emergency situations, provide effective first aid and ensures that workplaces have trained individuals capable of handling health emergencies, thereby promoting a safer working environment. The management of catastrophic bleeding is included for those working in high-risk environments where there is a significant risk of this type of injury.

This qualification is suitable for individuals designated as first aiders in their place of work or those looking to gain comprehensive first aid knowledge and haemorrhage control skills.

Duration
This is a one day course. We usually operate between 08.30 - 17.00 but can be flexible around client needs.
Entry Requirements

Learners should be a minimum of 14 years to undertake this qualification.

Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification.

Learners must demonstrate first aid procedures as part of their assessment, including providing CPR to a casualty on the floor. Therefore, learners must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor.

There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification.
Course Syllabus
The training typically covers a wide range of topics including assessing a casualty, managing an unresponsive casualty, performing CPR, treating wounds and bleeding, handling shock, and dealing with various medical conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, and seizures.
Unit 1 – Emergency First Aid and Management of Catastrophic Bleeding in the Workplace
Role and responsibilities of a first aider
Assess an emergency incident
Manage an unresponsive casualty
Recovery position and CPR
AED awareness (Defibrillator)
Choking casualty
Wounds, bleeds and shock
Control of major bleeding
Assessment Method
Practical demonstration
The practical assessment of the learners is conducted throughout the course. On-going assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.
Multiple-choice question paper
Candidates are assessed by the completion of a single multiple-choice question paper.
