QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) 

A comprehensive and practical one day paediatric emergency first aid training course. This qualification has been written with the collaboration of members of the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum (FAAOF). The qualification meets the requirements for emergency paediatric first aid training outlined in the Early Years Foundation stage documentation.

Course Description

Master the basic fundamentals of child and baby first aid. This paediatric emergency first aid course offers the opportunity to those working or looking to work in the early years setting, plus teachers and staff in schools to develop skills in effective first aid and manage life-threatening conditions, illness, and injuries involving children of all ages. 

Suitability

This qualification is suitable for those working or looking to work with babies and children, or individuals who are looking to gain comprehensive paediatric emergency first aid knowledge.

Duration

This is a one day course. We usually operate between 08.30 - 15.30 but can be flexible around client needs.

Entry Requirements

  • Learners should be a minimum of 14 years to undertake this qualification.

  • Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

  • Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification.

  • Learners must demonstrate first aid procedures as part of their assessment, including providing CPR to a casualty on the floor. Therefore, learners must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor.

  • There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification.

Course Syllabus

The training typically covers a wide range of topics including assessing a paediatric casualty, managing an unresponsive baby or child, performing CPR, choking, treating wounds and bleeding, handling shock, and dealing with various medical conditions and emergencies.

 

Unit 1 – Emergency Paediatric First Aid 

Roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider 

Assess an emergency incident 

Manage an unresponsive baby or child breathing/not breathing 

Recovery position and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) 

Choking 

Wounds and bleeds 

Managing shock 

Bites and stings â€‹

Assessment Method

Practical demonstration 

The practical assessment of the learners is conducted throughout the course. On-going assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical paediatric first aid skills across a number of areas.

Multiple-choice question paper 

Candidates are assessed by the completion of a single multiple-choice question paper.  

15 multiple-choice questions 

The pass mark is 11 correct answers (70%)

Time limit of 30 minutes
